Leitz Tooling UK, a tool manufacturing company that is committed to sustainability in practice, not just in name, needs to use significant amounts of energy in the creation of its wide range of specialised products, used globally by the professional wood-processing industry.

This commercial solar pv installation goes a very long way towards helping them meet the energy cost and security challenges that many engineering and manufacturing companies are now facing.

Taking place in several stages over six days, we installed a Solis 3 Phase 110kW Inverter, with 14 string inputs from the large rooftop area, positioning the panels for maximum solar capture and minimal shading from trees.

Due to the maximum current rating on the Solis inverter, 50mm 5 core armoured cable, rated at 187 Amps, was key to the whole installation, and that required some ingenuity to work within the constraints of the physical environment.

The Solis 3 Phase Power Manager is the whole system’s control centre for smart energy management, allowing the adjustment of export values to satisfy local network regulatory requirements.

One of the other big pluses about The Power Manager, is higher self-consumption and efficient use of the locally generated PV power – in other words, maximising the benefits of rooftop solar for this company, reducing their energy bills further, and decreasing the return-on-investment time accordingly.

The Ja 385W panels were grouped to form 14 separate strings, taking into account their optimal locations for minimal shading and minimising cable losses.

This was a very satisfying project, as Leitz Tooling UK is now in a more energy-resilient position, and has reduced the carbon footprint of its manufacturing processes very substantially – a genuine benefit not only to itself, but also the entire supply chain associated with its products.
